GoPlay11 Beginner's Guide — Getting Started in 2026

If you have just installed GoPlay11 and are looking at the team builder for the first time, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know to create a competitive first team.

Understanding the GoPlay11 Scoring System

Fantasy cricket is built around real-world performance. Every run, wicket, catch, and stumping your selected players achieve in the actual match earns you fantasy points. Here is the basic breakdown:

  • Batsmen: Earn points for runs scored, boundaries, and sixes. Bonus points for high strike rates.
  • Bowlers: Earn points for wickets, maidens, and low economy rates.
  • All-rounders: Score across both batting and bowling, making them high-value picks.
  • Wicketkeepers: Score for catches and stumpings in addition to batting contributions.
  • Your captain earns 2x points and your vice-captain earns 1.5x points for their entire match performance — making captaincy the single most important decision in your team.

Step 1 — Select Your Match

On the GoPlay11 home screen, you will see upcoming matches listed with time until team lock. Always choose a match at least 2 hours away so you have time to research.

Tap the match to open the team builder. You will see the playing squads of both teams listed with their fantasy points average from recent matches.

Step 2 — Build Your XI

A standard GoPlay11 team requires 11 players with these positional rules:

  • 1–4 Wicketkeepers (minimum 1, maximum 4)
  • 1–4 Bowlers (minimum 1, maximum 4)
  • 3–6 Batsmen
  • 1–4 All-rounders
  • You also have a team balance rule: maximum 7 players from one team. This forces you to pick at least 4 players from the opposing team.

Beginner tip: Start with the most in-form players from GoPlay11's stats panel. Sort by "Last 3 matches average" to find consistent performers rather than relying on reputation alone.

Step 3 — Choose Captain Wisely

Your captain pick is worth 2x points. For IPL 2026, consider these factors:

  • Is the player batting at position 1 to 4? (Top-order batsmen get more overs)
  • Is the bowler playing on a spinner-friendly pitch? (Check the pitch report tab)
  • Has the player scored above their average in the last 3 matches?
  • If you are unsure, the GoPlay11 AI Suggestions tab offers a recommended captain based on current data. Use it as a reference alongside your own analysis.

Step 4 — Review and Submit

    Before locking your team, check:

  • Total team value is within the credit limit shown
  • You have exactly 11 players
  • Your captain and vice-captain are set
  • No players are listed as doubtful or injured (GoPlay11 flags these in red)

Submit your team before the lock deadline, which is typically when the real match begins.

Common Beginner Mistakes to Avoid

Picking famous names over form: Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma may be crowd favourites but if they have been out of form in the last 5 matches, their fantasy output will reflect that.

Ignoring pitch conditions: A pacey wicket favors fast bowlers. A dusty surface in the second half of the season favors spinners. GoPlay11's pitch report tab is one of its best features — use it.

Forgetting the team balance rule: It is easy to pick 8 or 9 players from the stronger team. Remember you can have maximum 7 from one side.

GoPlay11 Practice Mode — Use It First

If this is your first time with fantasy cricket, start with GoPlay11's practice mode. It works identically to paid contests but without financial stakes. This is the best way to understand how the scoring system feels during a real match before you enter competitive formats.

GoPlay11 rewards cricket knowledge above all else. The more you watch matches, follow player form, and understand conditions, the better your teams will perform over time.
